Ignorance. Any religion may choose to acknowledge benefit of some herb or plant, just as any one might choose to acknowledge hypothetical benefit of some ritual. Mere fact that the occult, and sheer paganism might express some interest or opinion should not confuse people relevant to a natural ingrediant. Look at what Christians have sometimes done with diversity of sexuality and desire, even of heterosexual between a man and woman. People seek opportunity to relate some matter or object, due similar reasons they seek some regarded faith... either they are weak, shallow, feel some need to join the (or a) crowd, else they do so from personal opinion.
