I’m looking for Natural medication for Someone who is Bi polar, Depressed and has trouble staying awake.?

Posted by admin on Oct 30, 2009

My dad is Bi polar, Depressed and has trouble staying awake. He used to take medication that worked fine, but he moved and the insurance doesn’t cover those medicines. They new ones they gave him aren’t working, They are making it worse.

Does anyone know of any natural, herbal medicines for any of this?

yes Valarian root is a natural sedative and may help him sleep, buy it from health food shops or online.

Omega 3, 6 and 9 may help lift his mood, but he will need to be taking it for at least 2-4 weeks before he sees any change/result.

Good luck

I answered a similar question earlier…I had bi-polar disorder for many years. After going to a multitude of doctors and mountains of meds, I finally found something that cured me and it’s been over 20 years since I’ve suffered from the disorder…It’s Vitamin B-100 …His body is probably lacking certain nutrients needed for proper nerve function. Have him try it, take two a day for about a week and then back off to once a day…I found that after about 3 days I was feeling fine and have been fine since… – Good Luck!

Most insurance companies require a letter from the person’s physician so that they can receive the meds that work from outside of their formulary. I had to do that with some anti-viral medications because the one within the insurance companies formulary made me sick as a dog. Tell your dad there are options and his physician calling in or writing to the insurance company is all it requires. It just may cost at the top "tier" level of the prescription coverage.

Tier levels work like this – Tier 1 is Brand Name drugs, Tier 2 is secondary, and Tier 3 are generic brands.

Bi-polar type one or two? Type one he probably needs to be on prescription drugs, because the manic phases especially can be life threatening. Type 2 is milder and easier to control with non prescription meds.

For depression/Biolar type 2 –
St John’s wort
Vitamin B complex (a combination of multiple B vitamins like B-12, B-6, etc)
Omega 3 (in flax seed or fish oil)
5-HTP

for insomnia:

melatonin
not an herb, but Benedril
There is also a Valerian root, but it can have a side effect of mild depression so I wouldn’t recommend it for your dad
