How important is nutrition to teens? And does the prospect of health problems later in life matter now?

Posted by admin on Jan 10, 2010

Not many people know a lot about good nutrition. And I mean really know. Most teens aren’t even required to take a basic nutrition class in school. However, nutrition is the one thing in life that affects your whole life. Good or bad nutrition habits can affect your emotions, your your physical features including your skin, hair and bodyshape, and even how you treat others. Your nutrition habits will also have major effects on your health now and in the future. So how important is nutrition in your life?

Nutrition is hugely important in my life. Fresh fruit and veges and leane red meat. Lots of fish and turkey for protein. My body is a temple and I need to treat it right to keep my insides healthy. I also try to eat food witha high water content, water melons and so on. Fresh and natural is the key to a good inside. But if there is more I need to know please let me know.

I hope I answered you question You can tell how unhealthy you are by your bowel movements and its consitance( I know gross) but its true. As a 28 year old it is a high priority to keep in peak physical fitness. Although not a teen I still consider ymself as excited and energetic as a teen. Due to good nutrition of course:)

How do hormones, health and nutrition affect your skin pigmentation?

Posted by admin on Jan 5, 2010

This is a very complex question. I can’t answer it completely without a lot of research, but this is what pops into mind:

The type and amount of pigment (melanin) in your skin is determined genetically and enhanced by exposure to the sun.

Normal hormonal fluctuations can affect skin pigment, such as the mask of pregnancy (melasma). Some diseases and conditions affect pigment, including yellow jaundice from blood cell breakdown or orange pigmentation from excess carotene in the diet. And of course anemic people tend to be pale, but I don’t think that qualifies as "pigmentation".

Any Health and Nutrition people out there?

Posted by admin on Dec 27, 2009

I know juice is good for your brain and tea is good for your heart but if you mix the two do you get the best of both worlds or does it change them chemically into something harmful? Also is it good for a person to mix fruit juice and milk?

I wouldn’t see anything wrong with mixing milk and juice (other than the taste). If you made it into a smoothie with some fresh fruits as opposed to mixing straight juice and milk it would be tasty and have greater health benefits. I have never heard of someone having an adverse reaction to mixing tea and juice, but for flavor and added health benefits, I might suggest adding almond milk (extra dose of protein) or lemon (packed with antioxidants and vitamin C) to your tea.

How does Depression relate to psychological benefits of health-related physical fitness and nutrition?

Posted by admin on Dec 3, 2009

How does Stress,Memory,Self-esteem,Anxiety,Immune System, and Food Energy relate to psychological benefits of health-related physical fitness and nutrition?

Depression is exhausting. It’s like starving to feel good. When you’re really depressed, you don’t feel good enough to exercise, even though exercise would make you feel better because of the endorphins. Then food is a whole other issue for some people. Some people don’t eat when they’re depressed. Other people use food as a kind of self medication for the pain. Eating does cause a small release of seratonin, so you’re always looking for your next "fix."

Then there’s stress. For me, what I used to feel was an overwhelming sense of procrastination. Stuff would pile up and then I would feel the stress of not getting things done. The more stress I feel, the more distractible I get, and the more likely I am to forget things, or never process the information in order to remember it in the first place. Sometimes it’s because I couldn’t remember, and other times, it was because I never paid enough attention in the first place.

I never had a big problem with anxiety, but I know a lot of other people who do. My anxiety was more related to social situations, and that had to do with my self-esteem, which is the last thing to really recover, by the way.

The hardest thing about living through depression, for the sufferer and the observers alike, is sorting out where the illness ends and your character begins. The question is always "Am I this way because of the depression, or am I this way because I really am a lazy/boring/bad/ unproductive /sad/fat /weak/ unfocused/ drifter/lonely/(insert adjective here) person?

Im starting a health/nutrition/exercise/weightloss website. What would you want to see on a site like this?

Posted by admin on Nov 30, 2009

I am starting a health/diet/nutrition/weight loss/exercise/etc website, because obesity is a growing problem in America and I want to help. I am a Biology major at Boston College and understand some of the biological aspects of nutrition and gaining fat. I have some ideas of what to put on the site, but if you were going to a website like this to try and lose weight/get in shape, what would you want? What would you want information on? Weight loss plans? Nutritional label reading guide? Incentives for losing weight? More information on metabolism and fat? Consequences of eating unhealthy food? Please give me any ideas that you have, and let me know if you think this would be a successful website.

Free diet profile.Calorie listings. Being able to track your weight loss progress. Where your weigh is at as oppose to where you want it to be at. What you should weigh, not just by your height but by your build as well. Most sites are not realistic when it comes to that they assume how much people should weigh just by their height. Someone who has a large build and is 5′9 shouldn’t weigh as little as a person with a small build who is 5′9 and vis versa. It should be based on height and body build as well as muscle mass. That would be the main thing I’d like to do especially as an improvement to sites like thats.

what is the best way to get people who seek better health and nutrition to my website?

Posted by admin on Nov 26, 2009

I’m looking for ways to advertise (cheaply). I have a nutritional products that everyone wants and need but how do I get them to check out what I have to offer. I also want to donate 15% of my profit towards an organization, how do I go about promoting that?

Look into some of the resources on guerilla marketing. The traditional avenues are expensive, but if your’e willing to be a little wierd, there’s all kinds of ways to get cheap/free advertising.
