In a nutshell:
He wants the rising cost of healthcare (growing more than 3X the rate of income) to come down so all can afford it.
He wants to provide a gov’t option plan so that private insurance would have to lower cost to stay competitive.
He wants medical decisions to be based on the best interest of the patience health, not what would make dr.s or insurance co. more money.
He wants to utilize technology and better communication among dr’s to lessen wasteful spending on unneeded test and procedures.
He wants to emphasize on preventative care versus after care (it cost a lot less money to treat an ailment before it happens than after).
He wants to mandate that every citizen is required to get health coverage (same concept of making sure all drivers get auto insurance) the uninsured raises cost for others.
The Republicans opposition seems to be politically motivated. They want health care reform to fail because they know it is important for Obama’s Presidency (the waterloo remark). The propose reform does have some question marks about how much it is going to end up costing and how it will be funded (like the economy, it is a very complicated issue with many different variables that will effect the outcome), but if you listen to the Republicans it’s going to be catastrophic and bankrupt the country – of course they don’t mentioned that under our current system it will economically effect everyone a lot worse (cost are going up and up, people are one illness away from going bankrupt). And course they don’t offer an alternate plan. And of course their major financial contributers are from the insurance companies. Their main objective is politically motivated and cleverly hidden under the veil that health care reform is socialism and other propaganda like ploys to mess with the gullible minds of fearful Americans. Remember it’s easy to keep things the same, it takes courage to change, but the Republicans want the rich to get richer and the poor to stay poor, otherwise they lose their political strangle hold.

I doubt if ‘republicans’ are against a better, cheaper and more accessible health INSURANCE situation that the broken down, old timey, post war, worn out, over priced, employer based, non responsive,crazy quilt nonsense that currently passes for HEALTH INSURANCE, which incidentally has zero to do with HEALTH CARE. What I do know is that the GOP’s high command of reactionary, fascisti, retardo, lame brains is stooging for one of the most money hungry, corrupt and out of control entities this side of North Korea….the health insurance industry. Do these bozos care that millions of their own party faithful have no or way to expensive health insurance? Not only no, but HELL no! Do they care that millions of honest, decent, hard working Americans are forced to wait until the pain is beyond endurance before going to an ER? Again, HELL no! Is it part of their ideology to ignore the fact that ER’s are gradually closing all over the US because they simply can’t afford to treat people for nothing? ‘Yer damned right it is! one is the one that may be approved by the senate
and one is what Obama has been talking about…
and all three have some differences…
so, you’re partially right… you’re kind of mixing them all together…
for example… Obama really didn’t want a mandate on coverage, but it seems to be a point he’s willing to concede to get it passed…

This is fallacious. You stated yourself that healthcare costs (not cost of insurance) are growing far too rapidly. Insurance costs are driven by the cost of health care, not the other way around.
So making private companies compete with government (which has a virtually unlimited supply of money and is not bound by the rules of competition) does not help insurance companies magically lower their costs. What DOES help insurance companies lower their costs is for HEALTH CARE TO COST LESS. This argument is confusing cause and effect. There is nothing politically motivated about that.
The Health Care Bill does not attack costs of care. No one has the incentive to minimize the cost of receiving health care under this plan.

You are factually correct. I would keep in mind, however, that while MANY Republicans will Oppose ANY legislation or ideas from Obama, THIS issue with health care reform has been opposed by Republicans for 61 years. Personally, I believe health care reform objectionists care more about profits than the American people, and are using the exact same fear mongering they have used for more than half a century.

This simply means some government bureaucrat (Instead of your Doctor) will get to decide if you should be allowed to have that test, procedure, surgery, etc…

The main problem with your analysis is what Obama is "promising" is not what’s in the legislation. Congress doesn’t know what’s in the bill and neither does Obama!
GOP opposition is motivated by the FACT that this is bad policy. Most Americans are against it. They should be against it and WHEN it fails, Obama will have problems since his whole presidency is riding on bad policy that people are against.
We need reform but Obama-care isn’t the answer. Government should NEVER be involved with health care decisions. It’s none of their business.

I have never read or heard that Obama was mandating that everyone had to have health coverage. I remember him saying in an interview though that he would not have to mandate it if it was affordable–it is not a question of people not wanting it, it is question of people wanting it but being unable to afford it.
I say we do away with health insurance all together. Let’s all just put $1,000 a month in a savings account (or whatever your premium was)and use it for medical expenses as they arise. The money that was going to premiums (for people who had employer-funded health insurance) can go to salaries instead–allowing people to put this money in savings accounts. People will definitely be more savvy about their medical treatments (better consumers) when they’re writing out checks for the actual costs of treatment ($20 per aspirin, $40 per ace bandage, those kind of costs). Perhaps people will even start complaining to their doctors, their hospitals, and their clinics, saying, "This is ridiculous." Or they’ll decide they can have the sniffles and do without Flonase because it costs $300 (whereas before it was just billed to the ins. company).
I’m sorry, I’m going on a rant. But insurance is such a freakin’ racket. The only way it works is the fact someone is paying a lot in premiums that they’re not making use of. If this weren’t the case, insurance companies would not make a profit. And, people who have high-cost claims obviously are being made up for by all the people who use their insurance far less.

Much is true, but not the part about republicans , they have presented numerous ideas and options, and some of these have been worked in. Truth is, nothing will pass without some republican support. it seems clear that you aren’t a republican by your biased diagnosis of the opposition to the reform. As a republican, I am opposed to this bill being passed for multiple reasons. Number one is the evidence of countries with similar public health plans not being very efficient. For those who are involved in emergencies(knock on wood) it works out well because you get health care regardless of your coverage status. But there are many cases in these countries of governments denying coverage to people with long term illness/conditions, because they feel that there is not enough evidence to support further research into their conditions. Further down the line people who could have avoided serious health problems using preventative measures, have become very ill or even died.
I, for one, work very hard to provide my family with decent insurance. Thank God we are generally healthy, but if at any time my wife or misled are facing a serious illness, I prefer the private health care option. I know what;s covered and WAS not, and nobody gets to decide if its worth looking into but us.
I realize that the bill does not call for any of us who pay for insurance to give it up, but when private insurance providers cannot stay in business because it will cost them less to be fined by the government then to not stay in business, it looks like that’s their ultimate goal.
I am a republican. I am nowhere near rich. But, I believe that the harder I work, no matter what difficulties I encounter, I will have enough to get by. If your idea of change is making me work harder and struggling more so that people who aren’t willing to do so can have the same things I do…keep the change. Our president is a great speaker, and a public celebrity. He is not the answer to the worlds problems. Just because ideas of hope and change are great ideas, they are not great realities. Do not live in the current American fantasy that everything going to be ok because somebody else said so. I encourage you to support the American dream; there are always going to be those that have it better. Be happy with what you are willing to work for.

There is no ‘Obama Plan’ yet. There are 3 proposals out right now with 2 more to follow (there were 5 committees put together to study the issue and come up with recommendations). You seem to be mixing the 3 proposals currently out. The mandated part was just recently added to the Senate bill, I think, as a cave in to insurance companies. Although even that is not, and may not be, part of a final bill.
